Instead of reviewing just this book, I'm reviewing the series.The series started out well. The story line was great and the characters were being developed well. There was even a surprising plot twist that I wasn't expecting. But, as the plot twist changed the story, I found that I wasn't liking the direction it was heading. While I still liked the story and wanted to know what was happening next, I was really frustrated and almost decided to quit reading the series a couple of times. Besides the extremely dysfunctional relationships, Adeline came across as an idiot a lot of times. Sometimes she seemed to be smart and tough. But it seemed like 95% of the time that she needed to prove her toughness she came across as weak. I don't care how much you love someone, if they try to kill you and hurt people you love, you don't sit there expecting the best of them and trusting them. I don't want to explain in my review because it would spoil things. I also didn't understand why she allowed her mom to do the things she did when Adeline could have easily taken care of her. It's like Adeline forgot everything she was taught and just got stupid when it came to certain people or events. I went from liking her to thinking she was an idiot. And don't even get me started on the whole Mercer thing. I don't care how hot or sweet a guy is, if he continuously lies to you while promising you there are no more lies....I couldn't get past that. Without trust there's no relationship. How could she trust him when he did nothing but lie to her?Anyway, I guess it's worth reading, but be prepared for disappointment and frustration! Okay...here’s the deal. I loved this series until it just kept getting more and more complicated with more and more characters to keep straight! I mean...come on! This seems to be a new trend...create angst when it isn’t needed by making everything more complicated. Sometimes simple is better. I also had a really hard time connecting with them this time and the switch Mercer made was just weird. Oh, and let’s also not forget how easily Gianna got off the hook for the things she did in the last book. I just don’t get it. That could’ve easily been the focus of this book but it was completely out of left field. Sigh.
