I can go pretty far for a new twist on the plot, but this one just didn't cut it.If the driving force of your plot is one of the sisters falling pregnant, why on Earth do you pick Mary?! I'm sorry but that is just not believable. Lydia, certainly, Kitty, very possibly, but Mary? I just could not suspend belief to that point.The sub-plot about the non-existent entail was also very was also stretching the boundaries of belief as well. When an attorney has a client sign a legal document of such importance, they go over it ad nauseum with said client so that no mistakes are made. There is no way a client would simply 'sign the wrong one' and that not be corrected.Cannot recommend this one. Not the usual variant. This story flips Mr. Collins from bumbling to slyly vicious. He’s determined to have Longbourn, one way or another. But why search Mr. Bennet’s study when he thinks no one is around? Why is he so insistent upon marrying a Bennet daughter?Elizabeth agrees to marry Mr. Collins to protect her sister Mary’s secret. She finds him repulsive, but begins to be truly frightened when she realizes how cruel and bullying he really is. She tries to get her father to help, but as usual Mr. Bennet is too lethargic to summon any intent to help, even when he sees Collins physically slap Elizabeth in the face.Darcy is fighting his attraction to Miss Elizabeth, but in watching her he also sees that something seems wrong about this betrothal. Even if the lady is marrying only to secure her family’s security, she seems not just subdued, but....fearful? And those flashes of anger that Collins tries to hide do not fit with that appearance of vacuous inanity.It takes the help of a London stranger, and the combined efforts of Col. Fitzwilliam, Miss Lucas, and Mr. Bingley, to help Darcy save the woman he’s finally admitted he loves.This is a high-angst tale that places Darcy as the knight errant fighting for a trapped and defenseless lady. Elizabeth is not a doormat in this story, but the plot rightly places her in Regency times as a victim of a ruthless villain. She lacks the physical strength to fight back effectively, and is legally and financially powerless without a male defender.Because of the many instances throughout of threats of abuse towards Elizabeth, the reader is forewarned this story will not be everyone’s ‘cup of tea’. The villain gets his just desserts, but in an ambiguous manner that may not satisfy all.
